I'm here because I'd like to put in my two cents worth about the artists who deserve recognition, and the ones that are just stupid. Also, I like making my own art once in a while, so one of these days maybe you'll see something I made up here.

Kinda sounds like Flight of the Condors. Maybe that's the music? Just a guess. Anyway, yeah, it was pretty funny. The animation was not bad either. Good job.

Great job on the animating! It's obvious a lot of work went into this, and it's really cool to see the complete work. It was pretty entertaining, and had a good selection of music. I think some more sound effects would have been nice, though, like, the click, squeak, click squeak of the old lady would have been funny. Anyway, awesome stuff, and thanks for submitting it!

I was suprised at the fact that you had a guy challenge a girl to fight. Back when I was in high school, that kind of stuff would be a sure ticket for the guy getting beat down by any other guys who happen to be in the area. I know there are some tough girls out there, though, so it's not like I'm saying that out of prejudice or anything; I guess it was just the culture.
The most important thing you can improve in your next one is to have all the voices at equal volume, and at a volume people can hear without turning their speakers all the way up. Other than that, you've got some solid animation skills, and I'll be looking forward to seeing you improve.
Author's Response:
Well in my experiences, there are some cases where the guy challenged the girl. I've challenged a couple of girls back in college, but it was a playful kind of just knocking to the ground and putting wrestling moves on each other (or "nerd fight" lol). Yeah, it's more of an experience thing. Then again, this story takes place in the far, far future, so things change.
I'll take your suggestions into consideration.

I admire your effort, as animation is hard work, and I hope to see more from you in the future as you continue to improve. I hope the advice below will be helpful to you as you grow in skill:
First, I was suprised that, with all the free downloadable fonts out there, you didn't use a single one, but instead chose to write the text by hand/mouse. Using an appropriate font should be one of the first things to consider.
Second, I really enjoyed some of the transitions, such as where the eyes, then the lines, then the girl appears, as well as the light grows to turn the screen white, but many of the other scene changes were very abrupt, which made things look very unprofessional. I think if you would have even added simple fading (such as fade to and from white, blend from one scene to another, or fading to and from black) to many of those abrupt scene changes, the entire feel of the animation might have been greatly improved.
Third, the music also changed very abruptly. It's best to either find a point in the song where the music "rests", or simply fade out the music, and then start the next song.
Fourth, the tale was not clear, and had some plot holes, such as why was goku searching for the girl? How did he find out about her? Why did you say "the next day", when nothing "happened" the first day? I suggest getting the narration proof-read by someone else before you consider it complete, as this will help ensure that it is clear and coherent. Fanfiction messageboards would be a good place to do this, or if you have a mentor, he/she might be a good person to ask for help. Storylines are vital to animation. If a storyline is bad, the entire animation suffers, especially with anime, unless it is something immature like the "madness" series here on NG.
Anyway, that's all the advice I have for now. I hope that you will consider it, as I'd love to see your next flash be a great one. I think you have the potential.

thanks for the advices, they're very helpful:)

You did a really great job on this. The gameplay was fun and challenging, and the graphics and animation were certainly a visual treat. You've got some real talent. There was one thing, I must say though: your grammar was a little confusing at times. Other than that, though, this was really a lot of fun.

This game was definitely a masterpiece. Great programming, great artwork, animation, and voice acting, and as always great music by David Orr.
It took me a while to get used to the gameplay and figure everything out, but I guess that's half the fun.
Respect.

I really like this, and am looking forward to more. I also agree with the previous statement that this series of tutorials needs a qwerty piano interface, and if you don't know how to do that and aren't willing to learn, PM me, and I'd be willing to code it in for you because I think it would be a great improvement for this series of tutorials. It would also be nice to have the sound bytes stop playing when the key/mousebutton is released, which I could also code in if you like.
I highly suggest learning actionscript or getting a programmer. Other things that are possible using actionscript are "games" where you guess intervals by ear, guess notes by ear or by written note, try to play out written notes, write notes out and have the computer play them, try to get the beats right, etc. etc. etc....
If you had time, you could even build an entire sequencer within flash, though that would be a huge project if there were many different instruments with all available octaves.
I'm hoping you'll continue these as far as possible. Again, let me know if you need any help.
Author's Response:
Thanks, I might just take you up your offer. I too think that the Qwerty interface would be great, as would a release mechanism.
Thanks for the review, I'll PM you if I need any ActionScript.

"Great visuals, work on animation"
First of all, I need to say that you did a really great job on most of the stuff, such as the artwork, getting good voice actors and sounds, and a good storyline, but the animation of the characters needs to be more natural.
The aliens looked like they were doing squats the whole time, for example. The basic idea of what kind of motion they would have done is more or less correct, but if this motion would have been more subtle by having them not bend so much, or if certain joints would have moved in more elliptical motions rather than linear, it might have been more convincing. Also, attention needs to be paid according to importance of the scene, so for example, the part where she's breaking free should be a very scary and pivotal time, which means her motion during that time should have been more thoroughly choreographed, rather than looped with an akward-looking motion.
I think people can tend to forget that loops, although they are used in order to save time, they also have a price, that is, that the motion of the loop must be visually effective in order for people to tolerate watching it over and over again. One thing that makes a good animator is that he/she is also a good actor in that he/she knows what types of motion and poses will get the message across and also look good. Don't forget to use references for the motions to ensure it's correct (youtube is a good reference usually).
I hope my criticism doesn't sound too harsh; I'm just saying these things because it looks like you have a lot of potential and a great starting point for this series, and I'd love to see the kinks smoothed out so that we can have another highly successful series here on NG. Good luck on the next episode, and I'll be looking forward to it.

I have been waiting for a game like this. You, sir, deserve a beer.
Thank you.
btw, that mentor guy looks like President Bush, lol.
Author's Response:
I'm glad I could come through. Frank was modeled after some british dude, I think. I'd have to dig up the reference picture, but it definitely wasn't George Bush. I think it's probably because old people all look the same.
